Like I have mentioned before, children’s book illustrations are one of my biggest inspirations. A lot of the books I grew up with were from the 30s and 40s with period illustrations. When it comes to dressing, I am inextricably drawn to this period. A while ago, one of the set texts for my children’s literature course at University was Ballet Shoes, and I chanced across this text with the original illustrations from the 30’s by Ruth Gervis, the sister of Noel Streatfield, the author. So utterly inspiring! I love the adorable coats and the berets and the shirt, skirt and jumper combos paired with brogues and socks.
