It’s quite extraordinary, but I’ve been coming around to black. Slowly inching my way forward with the babiest of babysteps, but for the first time in years and years, I find myself thinking that maybe it’s an absence of colour I can wear. The prologue to my loathing of black begins somewhere in my dieting years when I spent two whole semesters at uni hiding in faded, baggy swathes of it. That’s an entire year, and possibly a bit more too. So when I finally discovered that I could wear *COLOURSOMG* I didn’t look back. Literally, because I’ve stayed away from black ever since then.
Maybe it’s because I’m finally comfortable enough with my body that I don’t care either way, for flattering fashion or the rules I set for myself (which mostly centered around banishing that one colour from my wardrobe) or because I find myself in need of a versatile work wardrobe and black goes with everything, like seriously though it goes with everything and…well, it all boils down to how I’ve been wearing black again and I don’t mind it all.
So when the lovely people at Fiorelli wanted me to take a look at their new A/W collection, I immediately found myself thinking how wonderful the rich jewel tones of their new satchels and grab bags would look with an all black outfit. Emerald and wine are the two colours I’ve been constantly running into this season – deep rich tones that seem to complement black while standing out ever so subtly against it. In the end, I put together 5 different collages of 5 different outfits, all centered around black with pops of rich colour. I might be going back to my emo roots a bit, who cares if it’s 2014?!
