Wearing ✶ Ace & Jig Marie dress in Empress ✶ Mustard yellow cable knit cardigan ✶ Handmade leather satchel ✶ Paisley tassel scarf ✶ Tabbisocks socks ✶ Clarks brogue boots
This gloomy winter weather has gotten me so down! I’d pretty much erased all memory of northern hemisphere winters from my mind over the past 5 years, and I’m not surprised! It’s a lucky, lucky day when we get 2 hours of sunshine, and last weekend we drove down to the moors to enjoy the briefest bit of precious daylight.
I wore this stunning dress gifted to me by Ace & Jig – a label I’ve admired since forever. They’ve recently added a couple of new sizes to some of their most well loved designs, and I picked the Marie dress to try on. Every Ace & Jig garment is a work of art in itself. All their fabrics are woven on handlooms by master craftsmen in India and tailored in India as well. The Marie dress is crafted from layers of gauzy woven cotton of the same weft and quality that’s used in traditional handloom sarees. The finished product is a thick, double sided fabric that’s as buttery soft as the kantha my great grandma sewed for me. I love how this traditional art has been re-interpreted to create the gorgeous fabrics that Ace & Jig use in their clothing. Sizewise, I’m wearing the 1X – a perfect fit on my UK 18/20 body. I actually just fell asleep in this dress at the end of the day, it’s that soft and comfy!
I styled the Marie dress with some autumny bits I’ve bought recently. This mustard cable knit cardigan from eBay is identical to my forest green one from last winter, except larger. I’m wearing the size 20/22 here and it’s pretty roomy! My scarf and satchel are also from eBay. I’d been wanting a satchel that’s less bulky and easier to carry around than my old Cambridge satchel, and this was the perfect find. It’s identical in quality to Cambridge satchels, made in the UK using the same leather as Cambridge satchels, available in a rainbow of colours, and only £35 with shipping for the 11″ size! Compare that to the 11″ Cambridge satchel which retails for £135 and that’s a serious bargain, especially considering there’s zero difference in quality.
How are you dealing with this season of short, damp days and long, freezing nights? Comfort food and hot chocolate? Sunlamps and Vitamin D supplements? Tell me your best winter combating tips!

Thank you! If I ever do sell this dress, it would be on my Instagram! I sometimes have closet sales there.
